Just bought a Digital Transport Adapter, remote won't turn TV on or off?
So I just installed a Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) from Comcast and everything works perfectly, except for the remote control that came with it. All of the codes for my tv worked with the remote, and everything on the remote works except for the power button. So, I cannot turn my tv on or off. All of the other functions on the remote work fine. If anyone knows why this is happening and if it is possible to fix, the help would be great.
P.S. Just wondering, if I was to unplug the Digital Transport Adapter, would I have to re-activate it when I plug it back in, or will it work normally right away? I use the outlet for a lot of different things and I already have an extension on it. Thanks again!
By the way, my tv is a Symphonic, if that helps at all.
You're not alone. It's fairly common for universal or cable and satellite box remotes to fail to operate every function of a TV when you've set up the remote with the TV manufacturer's code.
The problem is especially noticeable with discount brands like Symphonic and others. You would likely have no difficulty with a major brand TV like Samsung, Sony, or Panasonic, but the makers of the remote can't come up with every possible code for every possible off-brand that's out there.
There is no easy solution for you other than resetting your Comcast remote to its default and trying other Symphonic codes, if you can find any. Another option would be to try to research what major brand Symphonic has copied in creating their sets, and try the codes for that brand.
Bottom line, you're probably going to find it easier to just turn the TV on and off with the switch on the set or with the TV's remote. I have a similar problem with a small Vizio in my office. I just live with it and use the TV's remote.
