Cable Access Security

Two wireless routers in one house? (i.e. on one broadband cable?)?
I live with my parents in a house. They have broadband cable through comcast and use a Linksys wireless router for accessing the I-net. I just bought myself a new computer and after seeing how my parents relate to security issues (totally unsecure wireless, leaving doors unlocked when nobody's home, parking cars unlocked in drive-ways, etc. etc.) I am SCARED TO DEATH to share their wireless network. I want more control over my computer and my internet access. But if I get my own wireless router for my room, will it work to just plug up to the cable that's already in the house? How does that work? Do I need to subscribe to my own cable service, or can I piggy-back off my parents, and still have my own separate wireless connection? I want SECURITY and Peace of Mind!!!!
First, addressing the question on whether you can connect two cable routers to the same cable and access the internet with the same account... that's not possible. Two routers cannot be logged in and assigned the same IP, particularly with cable.
I'm not sure if it's possible to have two routers signed in seperately with different IPs. I suspect it's possible, but they would have to share bandwidth. Either way, it's totally redundant and a waste of money. I would still use the same cable connection.
However, you can access your parents router through another router (wireless or not), with stricter security settings, and your own firewall. This could create some networking confusion though. If you want to host any sort of networking game or program on your computer, you will have several levels to direct through.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. WEP wireless security is easily crackable anyways. Just make sure you have a secure admin password on the router, then even if somebody else accesses the network, you are in control if what they do and see and are watching them...not the other way around.
